Karen Fitzgerald is founder and President of FitzDesign Inc. In her 20 year career as a landscape architect, Ms. Fitzgerald has demonstrated expertise in public process and team synthesis, earning her the respect of local leaders, citizen groups, and public agencies. Ms. Fitzgerald has completed many highly successful projects, ranging from village master plans and neighborhood parks and playgrounds, to complex multimodal streetscapes and urban waterfront projects, as well as international projects requiring sensitivity to language and cultural diversity.
Ms. Fitzgerald’s approach to her work is grounded in the principles of community involvement and design through consensus-building and maintaining the identity of place. Her experience has required the design oversight and management of multi-disciplinary teams and expert consensus building skills.
At The Waterfield Design Group, Ms. Fitzgerald served as the Chief Landscape Architect from 2000-2004, building a respected professional practice, and guiding many projects from design through construction.
As a Project Manager for Pressley Associates, Inc. in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Ms. Fitzgerald designed and managed many projects, including the Lowell Western Canal project which received both a 2002 Excellence on the Waterfront Award 2003 Boston Society of Landscape Architects Honor Award in Waterfront Design.
For Bechtel Corporation in San Francisco, California, she served as Landscape Architect from 1989-1994, project manager for the Euro Disney theme park, as well as many other international site planning and design projects.
Ms. Fitzgerald served as a Project Designer for The Planning Collaborative in San Francisco, California from 1988 to 1989 and The Halvorson Company in Boston 1984-1986.
